National Nanomanufacturing Network: The National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Technology Innovation Program (TIP) has issued a call for White Papers to identify and select areas of critical national need for future TIP competitions.

TIP's mission is to support, promote, and accelerate innovation in the United States through high-risk, high-reward resarch in areas of critical need. TIP defines an area of critical need as an area that justifies government attention due to the magnitude of the problem and its associated societal challenges.

This call for white papers is open to all those in academia, government, industry, and professional societies or organizations. White papers may address any area of national need or may fall under the following topics:

  • civil infrastructure
  • complex networks and complex systems
  • energy
  • water supply
  • manufacturing
  • nanomaterials/nanotechnology
  • personalized medicine
  • sustainable chemistry

Background information, including descriptions of each topic area and submission guidelines, are available in the Federal Register Notice. Deadlines for 2009 submission are January 15, March 9,  May 11, July 13.
