Nanomanufacturing Clearinghouse Content Development Project

Written by:

National Nanomanufacturing Network: The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks an Editorial Consultant for a short-term intensive project to develop content for its nanomanufacturing information clearinghouse, InterNano.

InterNano brings together a broad array of information to support the nanomanufacturing community and represents the field to the larger scientific community and general public. The goal of the Clearinghouse Content Development Project is to ensure that all relevant content currently being published is aggregated on site and to establish protocols for the ongoing generation of such content.

The project seeks a free-lance consultant with familiarity in the nanomanufacturing technical literature who is able to quickly generate results over a three-month period during the summer of 2008. All services can be provided remotely from whatever location suits the consultant (i.e., there is no need to travel for this project).

Consultant Tasks:
  1. Communication: The consultant will communicate with experts in the field of nanomanufacturing to solicit brief commentaries and executive summaries on recent important developments in the field of nanomanufacturing. Build up existing database of experts as contacts and solicit no fewer than twelve original commentaries over the course of the project.
  2. Content Selection: Identify and select nanomanufacturing news and research to be included in the site. Review current literature and industry news sources to identify nanomanufacturing-specific content to be highlighted in the news section of the site or flagged for an expert commentary. Expand current listing of the most important sources of nanomanufacturing information.
  3. Content Creation: Write brief summary highlights of notable, current research for inclusion in the news section, as well as detailed, original content pieces on any emerging or “hot” topics for inclusion in the nanomanufacturing resources library. Compose no fewer than twelve highlights and two original “topics” pieces over the course of the project.
  4. Protocol Creation: Establish general workflow procedures for contacting experts and identifying content, and refine editorial guidelines for news highlights and topics pieces.
  5. Contribution: Seed and monitor the site’s discussion forums and events calendar, and consult with InterNano library staff to categorize content.
Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications for consultant hired for this project are:

  • Education and experience in an area of chemistry, physics, materials science, or engineering related to nanoscience and technology.
  • Familiarity with the nanomanufacturing industry
  • Excellent written communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in an area of chemistry, physics, materials science, or engineering related to nanoscience and technology.
  • 1-2 years experience as a technical or science writer
Project Duration:
