George Thompson manages technical government programs in support of Intel’s long term technology strategy. This includes developing collaborations among multiple companies, universities and government entities in public - private partnerships using open innovation frameworks to facilitate mutual support and technology transfer. He currently serves on a number on university and government advisory boards.

He has a PhD in Physical Chemistry and was awarded a National Research Council Post Doctoral Fellowship at NIST. Prior to working at Intel he was a staff scientist at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland working in the research and development of solar energy and applications of high resolution molecular spectroscopy. He has also done research and development for space electronics, optical diagnostic methods, and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
