Dr. Subhas Malghan is with the Food and Drug Administration where he is the Deputy Director in the Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories, the laboratory arm of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Dr. Malghan received his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, in Materials Science and Engineering, and subsequently held research and management positions in academic and industrial research organizations. His research contributions have resulted in more than 80 publications.

Prior to joining FDA in 2001, he was with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) where he built a nationally recognized program on characterization and processing of advanced ceramics powders. He contributed to basic research as well as standards development in the broad area of ceramic powders characterization and processing. Subsequently, he joined Technology Services, a standards outreach/management organization at NIST, where he held several leadership positions.

At CDRH/FDA, he is responsible for managing and directing a program on prioritization of laboratory science, the goal of which is to conduct high priority laboratory research to meet regulatory needs of the Center. In addition, he coordinates nanotechnology research in the Center as well as serves as a member of the newly organized FDA nanotechnology taskforce.
