Dr. Subhas Malghan

Dr. Subhas Malghan is with the Food and Drug Administration where he is a Deputy Director in the Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories, Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). Dr. Malghan received his doctorate from the University of California in Materials Science and Engineering, and subsequently held research and management positions in academic and industrial research organizations. His research contributions and more than 90 publications are primarily in colloid science, particle technology, and nanotechnology.

Prior to joining FDA in 2001, he was with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) where he built a nationally recognized program on characterization and processing of advanced ceramics materials. He contributed to basic research as well as standards development in the broad area of ceramic powders characterization and processing, and nanotechnology. Subsequently, he joined Technology Services, a standards outreach/management organization at NIST, where he held several leadership positions, including the Acting Director and Deputy Director.

At CDRH/FDA, he is responsible for managing and directing a program on prioritization of laboratory science, the goal of which is to conduct laboratory research to meet regulatory needs of the Center. In additon, he coordinates nanotechnology research in the Center as well as serves as a member of the FDA nanotechnology Taskforce. In addition, he works with National Cancer Institute’s Alliance for Nanotechnology in cancer program and Nanotechnolgy Characterization Laboratory.
